Biography

Matt Shelton was born and raised in Kansas City, MO from a working-class family of firefighters. After playing college soccer for Baker University in Kansas, he moved to Oklahoma to pursue the practice of law and has lived here ever since.

Matt earned his Juris Doctorate in Law at the University of Oklahoma City School of Law. While attending law school he externed for multiple Oklahoma County District Judges and was employed to intern on many various civil litigation matters.

After passing the bar, Matt began his career practicing complex civil litigation issues that involved representing plaintiffs in federal employment discrimination cases and/or compliance disputes regarding businesses and transactions.

Matt later became an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Oklahoma where he defended civil lawsuits against the State. While at the OAG's Office, he managed a high-volume caseload involving personal injury, property law, collections, and employment law.

Immediately preceding his career with Self Legal Group, PLLC, Matt worked for a high-volume corporate law firm specifically handling family law matters. He is now an Associate Attorney here at SLG practicing family law, civil litigation, estate planning, bankruptcy, and collections.

When Matt isn’t practicing law, he enjoys traveling to the mountains to ski, fly fishing, and playing/watching sports.
